What is Myofunctional Therapy?
Myofunctional therapy is a program of targeted exercises designed to retrain the muscles of the face, tongue, and mouth to function properly. It helps correct dysfunctional habits like mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, improper swallowing, and incorrect tongue posture.
Why it’s recommended?
Improper oral muscle function can contribute to a range of health issues across all ages. In children, it can lead to speech delays, misaligned teeth, and sleep-disordered breathing. In adults, unresolved myofunctional disorders can contribute to snoring, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), TMJ disorders, chronic fatigue, and orthodontic relapse.

Why it’s important for adults?
Adults often experience the long-term effects of untreated oral muscle dysfunction—such as poor sleep quality, neck and facial tension, speech concerns, or bite instability. Myofunctional therapy can help improve airway function, reduce sleep apnea symptoms, enhance facial balance, and support long-term orthodontic or surgical outcomes.
How it works?
Through a customized program of exercises and habit correction, myofunctional therapy trains the tongue and orofacial muscles to rest and function properly. These exercises are typically done daily over several months and may be combined with other treatments like orthodontics or airway therapy to achieve lasting results.
