Tongue and Lip Frenectomies (Using LightScalpel CO₂ Laser)
What it is:
A frenectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that releases restrictive oral tissue—commonly referred to as tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) or lip-tie. These conditions occur when the connective tissue (frenulum) under the tongue or upper lip is too tight, limiting normal movement and function.
Why it’s recommended:
In infants and children, untreated ties can lead to feeding difficulties, speech delays, mouth breathing, orthodontic issues, and airway development concerns. In adults, ties can cause speech articulation problems, jaw tension, difficulty swallowing, chronic headaches, neck pain, and contribute to sleep apnea and TMJ disorders.

Why it’s important for adults:
Many adults live with undiagnosed tongue- or lip-ties, unaware that these conditions are affecting their quality of life. Releasing these restrictions can improve tongue mobility, posture, speech clarity, breathing, and reduce chronic tension in the jaw, neck, and shoulders. It may also enhance the effectiveness of myofunctional therapy and sleep apnea treatments.
How it works:
We use the LightScalpel CO₂ laser, a leading-edge tool that allows for a quick, precise, and virtually painless release of the frenulum. Unlike traditional surgical methods, the CO₂ laser minimizes bleeding, reduces post-operative discomfort, and promotes faster healing. Most patients experience immediate improvement in oral mobility, with full recovery typically within a few days. For optimal results, we often recommend follow-up myofunctional therapy to re-educate the muscles and support long-term success.
